Long before I moved to NYC I heard of Babycakes Bakery’s greatness….but the whole gluten-free thing was very foreign to me and I was skeptical when my friend Katie told me I wouldn’t be able to taste the difference. Flash forward six years and I’ve been OBSESSED with this place for a few years now (which offers gluten-free and vegan baked goods) and can’t get enough of their seasonal Pumpkin/Maple and nod to the Girl Scout “Samoa” doughnuts!
I am in the near vicinity to Babycakes every Wednesday at my weekly client meeting on Orchard Street but because they don’t open till 10 am (my meeting starts then), I haven’t been able to go for a breakfast treat. But with last weeks meeting pushed back by a half hour, I made a beeline for Babycakes and picked up both doughnuts for breakfast to pair with my favorite Roasting Plant Coffee soy latte (which btw uses their super-rare Yunnan Baoshan bean).
Katie was right… you can’t taste the difference! Most gluten-free muffins and doughnuts are as dense as hockey pucks and feel like a brick in your stomach but these….these doughnuts are light, fluffy, and super delicious. These and everything else Babycakes offers will convert even the most gluten-free averse eater…. they made me a believer
