My Latest Obsession: Longford’s Own-Made Ice Cream!!!

Ok so Longford’s isn’t really my latest obsession… it’s an everyday obsession. I first got a taste of Longford’s this past fall on a visit to my boyfriend’s parents home in Rye and ever since I make sure to get a scoop (or two!) when I’m up there.

I can and do eat ice cream throughout the year. My guiltiest pleasure, I find myself truly happy when I’ve got a cup or cone of ice cream in my hand. When I first started dating my boyfriend we made weekly ice cream trips to Blue Marble and Ample Hills near my apartment for “little dates” and I loved that he enjoyed ice cream as much as I did. But little did I know that he didn’t really love it as much as I thought and was just trying to enjoy something I clearly loved very much ;)

My obsession lies with artisan ice cream though… you can keep your Cold Stone, Edy’s and Häagen-Dazs. Small batch and seasonal ingredient ice creams are my jam and Longford’s is the tits. Producing “own-made” premium ice cream and sorbets, this neighborhood hang-out reminds me of my childhood spent eating chocolate ice cream by the gallon in Kansas City. In addition to over 30 different ice cream and sorbet flavors, Longford’s also makes cakes, pies, specialty shakes and more but I can’t vouch for any of them.

It wasn’t until recently that I even walked into their store in Rye (they also have locations in Larchmont, Portchester and Old Greenwich), because my boyfriend’s mother always had it on hand when we visit their home. Even though they carry many flavors (over three dozen) I’ve only tried three… Red Velvet, Cookie Monster (Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough with blue coloring) & Party Cake.

All three are rich, creamy and lip-lickingly delicious but party cake is my hands down favorite at Longford’s. I bear no shame in admitting that I have eaten two whole pints of party cake in one sitting….it is that freaking good. It tastes just as it sounds…. imagine tasting one of those Costco sheet tray party cakes in ice cream form! Each scoop features thick ribbons of sugar-filled icing and vanilla ice cream for a flavor that is anything but ordinary. Got an obsession with ice cream… then make a beeline for Longford’s….it’s only a few block walk from the Rye Metro North train line so it’s not like it’s that hard to get to, but a car is probably your best option!

With places like June & Ho and Longford’s to keep me satisfied… the suburbs don’t seem too bad ;)
